Global Warming?
I am not a scientist, nor do I pretend to be. Is global warming happening? It could be. Is it man made? I don't know. Everyone seems to have an opinion, but does anyone, aside from actual scientists that study the data, really know what they are talking about? My father calls me every time the temperature is below normal just to say that global warming is a myth. He does not call me on hot days, though. I say, "Dad what about the drowning polar bears"? He says that it may just be the way nature intended polar bears to become extinct. Well, here is what I think: I think that all of the pollutants that we pump into the air has to have some negative effect. To say otherwise would be like saying that cigarettes are o.k in moderation. I don't know if it is causing global warming, I just know it must cause something. It seems that everyone must take such a hard line. Either they think that Ohio is one year away from being ocean front property, or they think that global warming is a democratic talking point, just used to smear republicans. At least the left wing is keeping an eye on things. The God pushing, abortion is murder, right wing, doesn't seem to care enough to even admit it could be possible!

Interesting position, Otin. Somewhat coincidental, too. I wrote about global warming (at least partially) in my Freedom Writing blog today.
And, while I am a Democrat, I don't look upon global warming as a talking point. Let the scientists determine what kind of impact it is having on our planet. I think it just makes sense to develop energy sources that will restore our independence from foreign suppliers and make the air cleaner.
That's kind of what I'm saying...too much right and left, not enough logic!
Hi Otin! Nice site. Good reads. Who are you and how do you know me? Write me at jerseymcjones@gmail.com.

Hi Otin. Looks like everyone's writing about global warming. You've seen my post, right? It doesn't even consider the possibility of global warming not happening. Even though, I am only 15, I've done extensive research on global warming, in fact, I'm meeting some nobel - prize winning scientists who researched for the documentary - Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" on Feb 2nd. Ok so you get the idea how serious I am about global warming, right? (umm this comment's going to be looong.)
I am going to explain to you a little about global warming, to counter some of the points in your post. Everything I state is fact, some deduced from my own research, some from other scientists... (in case I got you wondering, no I DON'T consider myself a scientist, just a high school student with an IQ of 156 who's home country (bangladesh) is going to drown in a few years)
OK then.
no 1. Global warming does not SIMPLY cause higher temperatures in the summer. It ALSO causes an equal degree of lower temperatures in the winter. The higher temperatures automatically change the natural course of the seasons, causing the winters to be colder. In a nutshell, global warming causes EXTREMES of temperature.
no.2 Global warming is a natural process of the earth, to SOME extent. When the earth was created, it was full of CO2, CO, and acidic gases. Over time, in the toxic volcanic goo on the earth's surface, the first forms of life appeared. those single-celled creatures were plants that could absorb these gases and turn them into food. Their waste was oxygen gas. These single - celled creatures evetually transformed into multi-cellular plants, and the plants started growing on both land and water(which was created after O2 went into the atmosphere from the plants and bonded with hydrogen). and when there was enough oxygen, animals and other creatures appeared which fed on the oxygen. Now, as the number of humans and animals are increasing and eventually, out - numbering the plants, the carbon dioxide in the air is increasing and heating up the earth. But this is a VERY slow process.
no.3 Humans are escalating the the rate of global warming. there are MANY ways they are doing this. 1) they are releasing more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. these gases are - cabon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, ChloroFluoroCarbons(CFCs),and more. As the name suggests, they act like greehouses. They form a kind of blanket over the earth and let solar energy in, but a lot less than normal out. That's what increases temperatures. these gases also cause acid rain.
2)deforestation - humans cut down trees, which absorb CO2 and nirogen oxides, greenhouse gases, and turn them into food. with less trees, there's more of those greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to heat it up.
there are more ways but these are the main ones.
no.4. the ice caps at the poles were frozen over millions of years and ice ages.the higher temperatures in the summers have caused them to melt and albeit the lower temperatures in the winter, they cannot refreeze overnight. that's impossible. the polar bears are destined to perish...either way. global warming cannot be stopped or reverses, it has to be slowed down.
I believe abortion is murder too... but I think something horrible is happening to the planet, what with all the pollution and melting ice caps. Pope Benedict the 16th even said that the damage we do to the planet, like POLLUTION, is a sin. So those who are religious radicals could take that as a reason to understnad more about global warming... but then again, not everyone is Catholic.
