Aloha Friday #12

I always look forward to Aloha Friday because I love reading peoples answers to my question! In Hawaii, they take it easy on Friday, that is why we all take it easy blogging. For more on this, check out An Island Life. So, my question for this week is:

WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF A HERO?

I am leaving my opinion for later!

What a great question!!! And a tough one too! Hmm....right off the bat, I'd have to say someone who helps others without all the fanfare.

Someone you can look up to, who won't disappoint you, who goes through life with dignity and handles adversity with grace, someone who helps another without being asked, who is honest and true, and much more, but that's basically what a hero is to me.

Someone who maintains their composure and looks at the sunny side at all times. Remains calm without looking for a reason to be offended or angry. Does the right thing when no one is looking - without any concern for a reward or pat on the back.

Too funny - Jane wrote about the same thing. I read the comments after I type my answers. I enjoy seeing how my answer compares.

Agreeing with the above, I would add parents that raise their children with values and mannors. Teachers that inspire and motivate. Low paid workers that work for the joy the day instead of a paycheck. Employees that endure rotten employers so they may support their families. All who are more intested in paying it forward, rather than paying themselves. Medical researchers and garbage pick-up personnel. Everyone that gives a hug to someone else just because.

Maybe everyone is a hero to someone!

Someone who knows how to stay humble and not pushing to ask reward for his actions and talk about it all the time.Someone who acts with his heart always and not just to make larger the side of his bank account or wait for something from someone. And someone who is honest with others and with himself.

Oh wow, a hero has many definitions. But the one that comes to the forefront of my mind would be someone who puts others before him/herself and doesn't play the martyr for doing so. My AF

A hero is someone you can look up to that puts others needs ahead of their own, when the situation calls for it.

I think a hero who helps anyone/thing in need and doesn't make a big deal of it.

To me a hero is someone who can be emulated in positive ways as well as the obvious saving people/animals/homes from danger etc...

A hero is anyone who does something to help others be it something big or small with no thought about what it can do for them.

I think that the meaning of hero has changed over the years, it used to be associated with a person that risked his or her life, or died for another person or cause, but I think that it has taken on new meaning. I think that a hero can be anyone that has a positive impact on a person or a community, Firefighters, police, military people are all heroes because their lives are at risk at all times, but a person that buys a homeless man dinner, may be a hero to that man. My Employer built a state of the art ball field for handicapped children, amongst many other charitable events that he hosts, so I nominated him for People Magazine's "Heros amongst us", and he is one of the finalists, People Mag called me yesterday!

I liked m81's comment - bottle of wine!!! LMAO!! Good answer!!

I was going to answer the same as Anissa did. To me a true hero is someone that endangers their own life in order to save another.

1. Damn damn damn. I had the perfect opportunity to photograph a REAL hero this morning. Alas, I was butt naked and trying to shower and get ready for work. I did not grab my camera. I'll try to get a photo next time.
2. If my hero wont work I'll take M81s hero.
3. If he's out of wine, well then I'll agree with you. Heros are where you find them. Ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Someone who does something without expecting anything in return.. Being a hero is a sacrificial act.. It's something that we aren't normally but often times are forced into..you just have to make the decision if will or won't make the sacrifice.

to me a hero is someone who makes a difference in another's life, and doesnt expect a thank you for it. parents are heros, and teachers, too.
