Giving Thanks

As we eat our turkey
And savor pumpkin pie
Let us all remember
Those who passed on by

Revolutionary patriots
With the heart to take a stand
To break away from tyranny
And forge a better land

Brothers fighting brothers
Many to their graves
That we would stay united
and liberate the slaves

They fought the evil empires
In two epic global wars
Some men's hopeful futures
Died on distant shores

So many did their duty
In Asia some did fall
Now they are but a memory
A name upon a wall

So this year I ask you
As we enjoy our feast
Give thanks to our troops
Who patrol the middle east

The ones who are still fighting
And others who have died
Their mothers and fathers
And all the tears they've cried.

Be thankful for what you have
Even if it's not a lot
Many people perished
To give you what you've got!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Excellent poem! I just might read this today at our Thanksgiving meal (we are often cheesey like that). In attendance will be my step-dad, who is retired military, and two of my cousins who are in the Air Force.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Very nice poem! I've been paying homage to our family ancestors. Some of them served and died in the Civil War. We have friends serving now and we have a friend who is a Veteran. I'm always thankful for their sacrifices and for all those who've sacrificed for our country.
Happy Thankful day!!

I keep seeing your name pop up and I thought I'd stop by and say hi. So, um...hi!?

This is a great poem. What a wonderful reminder. Sometimes it's too easy to get caught in the "poor me" net, but what we have it so much better than what a lot of people have...

Happy Thanksgiving!
