Great story. As one who thinks that the Shroud is real and strongly favors more testing, I enjoyed your perspective.

Pope John Paul II is on record as saying, "The Church has no specific competence to pronounce on these questions. She entrusts to scientists the task of continuing to investigate.”

And, indeed, most scientists who are doing research on the Shroud and sincerely think the Shroud of Turin is probably authentic -- there are many – would like to see more testing.

Thanks for a great story. I have posted a link and comment at the Shroud of Turin Blog.

I'm relatively new hear but I love it when you write like that. Told to perfection my friend.

Ohhh, Otin. You're not going soft on us, are you?

LOVE, love, love this one. Love your heart. Love that you show so much respect in this piece regardless of your own personal beliefs. Thank you.

But of course, my first instinct was to be snarky and question why the Catholic Church would compromise their most prized religious artifact for money. Then again... they have that enormous legal defense and hush money expense to pay out.

Was he responding to an inner truth or was he afraid of the consequences of a crazed crowd? Good way to use the words today. A lot of people aren't religious, but they have faith.

Another great tale from the Otinator.

Nicely done!

I really love how you wrote this one. I didn't really expect it to end the way it did, but I couldn't have asked for a better conclusion. It's perfect, like you. :) That's enough flattery for now. lol

Wow a surprising turn for you. Nicely done. . I haven't a clue yet and it's Thursday morning already. The jury is still out in relation to the shroud and it has been carbon dated so who knows.

there are a lot of things you have to just take on faith. Glad you're a believer...in people!

Pastor Sharon said...

Incredible, well told, and you took my breath away with it.

You still amaze me.

I'm so glad he felt the horrible impression he would make on believers world wide.

Who needs that kind of karma?

Awesome story!!!

The sermon of a lifetime. Amen. What good would it do to shatter the faith people have? Awesome story, as always.

Gosh! This was very introspective to say the least. And you even caught the attention of the Shroud of Turin blog. WOW.

What a great story!!!

I've said it a hundred times, and i'll say it again ~ You are an incredibly gifted writer! ~ seriously.
Sometimes, I feel like I'm reading Stephen King.. only he got a little better!!!
some people have great ideas for a story, and others have the ability to write them down ~ YOU have an incredible marriage of the two!

I "heart" you!!!

Tracie said...

That was so good! You can write so many different genres and themes. That takes talent!

Toni said...

Love the philosophy behind your story Otin - just lovely x

I'm not religious, but after watching Battlestar Gallactica and listening to Neutral Milk Hotel, the word God doesn't feel as divisive.

I don't know whether I would have been so thoughtful and not cut the cloth. But actually, I really don't care how old it is, so I might have left it alone for the believers.
Cool ending.

Very good story! Where's the tunes?

sheila said...

Alright now OTIN! Where the frick is your comment button on your 55 post? lol.

Stop messin with me, ha ha ha!

Jen said...

I finally have some time to visit and comment and you have not allowed them? What's up with that?

True faith cannot be shattered by something as trivial as a shroud that may or may not have belonged to Christ. I have faith in The Lord...not so much in the church...

JennyMac said...

LOVE this..

and I will still make a comment on your 55 post = OUTSTANDING.

This is incredible. I wonder if you take sides on this issue or if you are purely a bystander observing. hmm. Whatever; it is thought provoking. Good Job.
