The wisdom of our forefathers

"That's not the way our framers intended it to be"

Just another worn out quote that certain people use to push their agendas.  To be quite honest, I don't really give a rat's ass if my opinions are a hundred percent in line with our forefather's visions.  Sure, for the most part they were wise men, but remember, in the grand scheme of things, we laid claim to a land that wasn't ours in the first place.

We have to evolve as the world evolves.  We can't hold onto every single thought and idea that was conceived hundreds of years ago without change.  That would make just make us mindless followers.

We are always taught to revere such documents as The Constitution, or The Declaration of Independence.  The following is taken directly from The Declaration of Independence, which lies under glass in our nation's capital as a monument to freedom.  It is listed as one of the reasons why wanted to break away of the King's rule:

"He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian savages, whose known rule of warfare, is undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions."

Our frontiers?  Merciless Indian savages?  Our forefathers weren't always right....just saying.

amen brother...and if we always did things the same way we would never move forward either....our forefathers could not be prepared for everything yet to come...i think we have come a long way in some things...and regressed beyond them in some...

The ability to adapt is, in my mind, what makes a great people.

Let's see how we do.

That is so true, Otin. Now, let's talk about the Bible.

Kidding. Kidding.

You are right. We all love to make our points with passages of whatever subject matter we are discussing. Bearing that in mind, I will strive to only quote myself!

For the most part we have of late fallen far short of that evolution of thought.

They THOUGHT they were right at the time, just as we think we are, now. Daresay some of the views we hold today will also receive a rather jaundiced eye, another couple of hundred of years on. I sure hope so!

And yet the original constitution is 'upheld' in order to get away with things that those old codgers had no idea would ever exist. If the only rule we were governed by was COMMON SENSE....

On the other hand, few have common sense so...nevermind.

And the same goes for the bible - but you don't want ME getting started on THAT. (trust me)

Amen. The country needs to tape that shit to its collective bathroom mirror!

The Constitution was clearly meant to guide us or else we wouldn't have a Supreme Court whose very reason for being is to INTERPRET it. It's the spirit of the thing. Historical documents need to be taken in context.

AWESOME post!

I spent the first 23 years of my life going through life as a mindless follower. It's nice to be free and think on my own.

Love this: "Our forefathers weren't always right...just saying."

Love ya!
